I am actually like a couple of my other classmates and I am still waiting on my textbook to arrive as well. Hopefully I should be receiving it in the next couple of days, so I will be posting about Chapter 1 then. Stay tuned.
Jaime, I'm sorry about your wait for your textbook. I was scared of having to wait and getting behind so I purchased the Kindle version. It was a little less expensive and I could access it on my phone or my iPad. Here the main points I got out of the first section of the book:
I think that educational technology is appropriate because the name implies that it involves technology that is used for teaching purposes. I have gone through many changes and can now say that I truly do adhere to the six characteristics. I have made it a point that my department make decisions on what, how, and when we will teach or test as a team. I feel that it is much better for us to grow as a team than for any one of us to grow solo. I do not agree that teachers, chalkboards, and textbooks are not instructional media. I have always viewed media as "anything" used to do a specific task. The purpose of instructional design is to incorporate anything that will help students gain a deeper understanding of the skill being taught. I don't think this only applies to media. This could include toys, experiments, and trips.
